Vibrant azurite crystals on matrix collected from Morocco. Azurite is a bright blue mineral and is formed by the weathering of copper ore deposits. In open air it is unstable and is often replaced by the other copper carbonate, Malachite. Green malachite formed as a result of this replacement may be present in your specimen. With its striking and eye catching blue colour azurite was historically used as a blue pigment for paint and in jewellery; these days however it is most popular as a collectors stone. These azurite specimens are supplied in a large ( 4 cm x 4 cm ) magnification box to enhance the viewing of the sample. An interesting addition to any collection both for educational and display purposes, excellent for children ( +7 ) or as gift for mineral enthusiasts and those interested in geology.
With prolonged exposure to daylight the colour may fade. Store in a cool, dry place.
