Bornite mineral specimen from Sonora, Mexico; mounted on a polystyrene base. Bornite is an important copper ore known for its iridescent blue colouration made more spectacular by its metallic lustre. Although popular among those interested in geology and mineralogy, bornite also has a niche in the gemstone gift market. This is partly due to its bright colour but also when treated with acid ( but can also occur naturally ) the mineral can develop an even more vibrant blue colour. The treated mineral is often sold as 'peacock ore' and we sell this also. The minerals stand proudly, mounted (attached with glue) on a polystyrene base within a 1.5" x 1.5" card tray, information label attached. These specimens would be suited for geologists, collectors or simply those interested in mineralogy looking for an attractive display piece.
