Calycoceras gentoni ammonite collected from the Cretaceous, Cenomanian Lower Chalk deposits of Maiden Newton in Dorset, UK. This specimen has a relatively inflated shell with prominent ribs. Ribs are thought to have increased the rigidity and strength of the shell, to protect them from predators and allow the animal to exploit greater depths where the water pressure would've otherwise crushed the shell. The shell measures 2.5 cm in diameter and is supplied in a small plastic bag with an information label.
