Chrome diopside is a variation of diopside which contains chromium, giving the mineral a very bright, vibrant green colouration. Generally, diopside is a dark mineral which belongs to the pyroxene family and is often found in ultramafic rocks. It is fairly average in terms of hardness, rating 7 on the Mohs scale of hardness. Most of the time, diopside tends to be a dull green colour and not much to look at, however, when chromium is present, the mineral has an extremely vibrant green colour to it. Diopside is usually found along with other ultra-mafic rocks and minerals, and as such, these particular specimens were collected by staff from the Gusdal Olivine Pit in Almklovdalen, Møre og Romsdal, Norway. The mineral specimens are available in a range of sizes and will come in a card tray or magnifier box with a label.
