Epidote in a massive form from Norway, pure and green, these mineral specimens are of excellent quality in terms of massive material as they are free of other minerals, unlike our Scottish material. The samples are complete, and fairly dense, they were collected by our own staff from a skarn deposit in Arendal, Norway. The mineral was named in 1801 by Rene Just HaǬy, a prominent French mineralogist and founder of the MusǸe de MinǸralogie in Paris, France. The name is derived from the Greek word Epidosis, which mean "increase" in reference to the crystal characteristic of one longer side at the base of the prism. Excellent specimens, suitable for teaching purposes, handouts or packs, where large quantities are required for a more cost effective price. The material varies in size between 20 mm to 100 mm and will come supplied in a polythene bag with an information label.
