Epidote in a massive form from Norway, pure and green, these mineral specimens are of excellent quality in terms of massive material as they are free of other minerals, unlike our Scottish material. The samples are complete, and fairly dense, they were collected by our own staff from a skarn deposit in Arendal, Norway. The mineral was named in 1801 by Rene Just HaǬy, a prominent French mineralogist and founder of the MusǸe de MinǸralogie in Paris, France. The name is derived from the Greek word Epidosis, which mean "increase" in reference to the crystal characteristic of one longer side at the base of the prism. Excellent specimens, suitable for teaching purposes, children or collectors, they are available in various sizes and will come supplied in a white card tray with an information label.
