Essexite also known as olivine Monzogabbro. It is a coarse grained alkaline igneous rock rich in Plagioclase feldspar & Pyroxene (Augite) with essential Nepheline & Olivine but undersaturated in Silica. It's type locality is Essex County, Massachusetts, USA, however, this example is from the Southern Uplands of Scotland, UK. Historically it was used in the manufacture of curling stones. Specimens of essexite are also available cut and lacquered, these are the same rock specimens however, they have been cut on one side and lacquered giving creating a smooth feel and allowing you to see the rock texture much easier on the flat surface. Specimens are supplied in a white card tray with label.
