Fine beetle preserved on a thin slab of pale siltstone, collected from Oligocene deposits in Cereste, France. More specifically this specimen is of Stampian age which dates back approximately 33 Mya. During the Oligocene epoch parts of Cereste were occupied by shallow, inland lakes. Fine and often calcareous sediments accumulated within the lacustarine basins.Today these sediments yield abundant fossils such as this fine beetle. The beetle itself measures 5 mm and its matrix measures 8.5 x 7.5 cm in dimension.
