Details
Iron and manganese mix collected from the Lecht Iron Mines of Tomintoul, Aberdeenshire. This mineral mix is a dark brown to black colour but often exhibits a rusty orange hue as a result of the oxidation of iron. The specimens are rough and jagged but exhibit an occasional botryoidal crystal habit. Manganese is a metal commonly used in metal alloys; in nature it rarely occurs as a free element and is usually found with other minerals such as iron as is the case with these specimens. This material would make an interesting educational addition to any collection, demonstrating how some of our most precious metals occur in nature. Each specimen is supplied in either a 1.5" x 1.5", 2" x 2", 3" x 2" or 3" x 3" white card tray ( according to the size of the specimen ) with an information label. We also supply small specimens in a 25 x 25 x 20 mm magnification box to enhance the viewing of the sample. Suitable for geologists, collectors or those imply interested in mineralogy.
