Labradorite is a feldspar mineral, a member of the plagioclase series. In general, it as a blocky appearance and tends to be found in mafic igneous rocks including gabbros and basalts. The composition of this mineral also gives it a shimmering effect when viewed under certain light angles, this is known as labradorescence. This can be faintly be seen in rough, natural specimens like this, however, it is easily viewed in polished pieces.
