Description

Details

Mica schist is a medium grained metamorphic rock which is well known for its platy foliated crystals in a single orientation and its reflective appearance. The rock is often composed of at least 50% or more platy, elongated schist crystals, however, quartz and feldspar can also be present and sometimes garnets. Schists are often named depending on their main consituent minerals, with mica schist or schist being a term to represent them overall, however, these particular specimens are composed of muscovite mica. These rock specimens are from the Dalradian series, a complicated group of various metamorphic rocks which are dated to the Pre-Cambrian period and is present in both Scotland and Ireland. The specimens come from Scotland and are available in various optional sizes or as a 3 inch size piece with a cut and lacquered face to detail the foliated crystals inside. They will be supplied in a card tray with an information label.
