Potamides are an extinct species of gastropod, these samples were found in Soissons, Aisne, France and are dated to the Cuisian stage of the Eocene period, 56 million years ago. Also known as sea snails, they are easily identifiable due to their long, spiraling shells, often called 'unicorn shells'. They lived in marine environments and were found around the world.

Specimens of cut and polished Potamides coquina from Soissons, Aisne, France. These sections of coquina are comprised of an unidentified species of Potamides and have been cut and polished to give them a highly attractive appearance, the fossils have been dated to the Eocene period, cuisian stage.
