Description

Details

A thin section of mylonite which was collected from the metamorphic region of Lom, Central Norway. During formation, high temperatures and pressure allowed quartz crystals to recrystallise, become finer and allow the rock to flow, subsequently producing mylonite. In thin section the larger clasts are usually feldspar because they do not recrystallise as easily as quartz. Thin platy minerals of mica show a degree of alignment and can be recognised by their bright colours under crossed polars. Each section is made to 30 microns thickness and the glass is 46 x 27 mm in size with a cover slip. Supplied in a protective card sleeve with a label, ideal for microscopy and educational purposes.
