Skarn is a term used a describe a range of coarse grained, metamorphic rocks, that are rich in a group of minerals known as calc-silicate minerals. These are minerals that are rich in calcium-magnesium-iron-manganese-aluminium and silica. Due to this, the composition and appearance of skarn material can vary greatly between pieces. These pieces happen to be rich in andradite garnets, with inclusions of green amphibole. This results in these specimens being mostly reddish brown in colour.
