Sedimentary Rocks

Sedimentary rocks are normally stratified or bedded, they usually occur as layers parallel to the surface of which they were deposited. Many sedimentary rocks are clastic and are made up of fragments of other rocks or minerals cemented together by a solution. Many sedimentary rocks contain fossils which give us clues to life in the past. These types of rocks are variable in that some are composed of organic material, chemical precipitates or simply mineral and rock fragments cemented together.
