Vibrant amazonite mineral specimens from Russia. This particular variety is punctuated by white feldspar streaks giving the specimens a rare and beautiful graphic texture. Amazonite is a microcline feldspar mineral, sometimes known as ‘Amazon stone’, named after the famous Amazon river in Brazil, where similar green stones were found, although whether or not amazonite is actually within the basin its self is still debated today. Common minerals found with amazonite include quartz, smokey quartz, orthoclase feldspar and albeit; it is possible that the white streaks in these specimens are either orthoclase or ableit. The mineral its self has a vibrant green colouration which is what it is famous for, these specimens are of a much higher quality than our Norwegian specimens. Originally, the colour was thought to be due to high quantities of copper being present at the time the mineral was forming, as copper turns to a blue or green colour when oxidised, however, recent studies have suggested that it could actually be lead that has caused this unusually bright green colour. These amazonite specimens were collected in Russia and are available in only three sizes, the pieces will come supplied in a card tray with an information label.
