Amethyst is a popular mineral specimen among many, it belongs to the quartz family of minerals along with other similar species such as citrine, rock crystal and more. Amethyst is mainly sought after because of its economical price yet, deep rich purple colouration, how ever it can also be found in different hues such as a pale purple or even pale pink, the colouration is down to irradiation and iron impurities being present at the time the mineral was forming. The name is derived from ancient Greek, ἀ meaning not and méthystos meaning intoxicated as it was believed that the mineral protected its user from drunkenness. Amethyst has long been used as a decorative gemstone for various object such as jewellery, goblets, amulets and more. These amethyst crystal beds which came from Uruguay, exhibit various shades of purple and show the pointed crystal nature of the mineral, similar to quartz points, they are available in various sizes which you can choose from and come supplied in a white card tray with an information label.
