Layered mineral specimens consisting of bands of baryte, galena and fluorite, collected from Weardale, County Durham in the UK. These specimens display the process of paragenesis in a hydrothermal vein which is the sequence at which the minerals form based on order of solubility. Galena is a lead ore and thus has an important industrial role whereas Baryte and galena are “gangue minerals” and so have a much lower economic value when in small quantities. These samples come supplied in a white card tray with an information label and are ideal for educational purposes,

Layered mineral specimens consisting of bands of baryte, galena and fluorite, displaying the process of paragenesis in a hydrothermal vein. This is the sequence at which the minerals form, based on order of solubility. Baryte, being the least soluble, forms first, followed by galena and then lastly fluorite as the solubility of the minerals progressively increases. Galena is an economic mineral, being the ore of lead and has such played an important industrial role throughout history. Conversely, the fluorite and baryte are referred to as “gangue minerals”. These types of minerals have little to no industrial value in small quantities and are typically found alongside important ores. These specimens were collected from Weardale, County Durham, UK and come supplied in a white card tray with an information label. Ideal for educational purposes.
