Blue calcite mineral samples supplied by weight, this blue variation is due to the presence of oxidised copper impurities within the crystals. These particular samples also show the rhombic crystal structure of calcite and can easily be seen with the naked eye. When formed in masses such as these pieces, the samples are known as ‘massive’. This blue calcite is available by weight, starting from 500 grams, and is suitable for lapidary, educational and enthusiasts use. the pieces vary from 20 mm to 100 mm though most pieces will sit in-between and come supplied in a polythene bag with a label.

Blue calcite is a coloured variation of the mineral calcite (calcium carbonate), it has a blue hue to it due to oxidised copper impurities, these particular specimens also exhibit a coarse grained crystal texture in which the individual rhombic crystal are visible even with the naked eye. This feature allows you to view the crystal habit but also how the crystals form and interlock with one another into a mass, known as ‘massive’. Calcite its self is among the most common mineral found naturally, quite often as mineral deposits but also in many sedimentary rocks, either as a cement or as crystal inclusions, particularly limestone. Calcite is well known for being a fairly soft mineral, easily scratched, coming in at 3 on the Mohs scale of hardness. These particular pieces are suitable for enthusiasts and educational use, both because of the calming blue colour and also the crystal structure and as a means to display the various colours a mineral can be found. These particular samples come available in weighted packs starting from 500 grams. The pieces vary in size from 20 mm to 100 mm in size and come supplied in a polythene bag with an information label.
