Specimens show its red colouration and dull lustre. Due to the colouration and crystal form of specimens form the UK such as this, it is also known as 'kidney ore'. These samples of hematite are brecciated and are cemented with baryte. Some pieces may show the botryoidal crystal habit which is often expected of hematite.
