Calcite rhomb mineral specimens which depict the calcite crystal perfectly in its natural rhombic crystal form, these pieces have not been cut or polished in anyway and come as they are. Calcite is one of the polymorphs of calcium carbonate, the others being aragonite and vaterite. Calcite is one of the index minerals in the Mohs scale at number 3, as it is a fairly soft mineral, able to be scratched by your finger nail. As expected of this group of minerals, it reacts with hydrochloric acid or vinegar to release bubbles of CO2, this causes a reactions which results in bubbling and fizzing on the surface of the specimen. This can prove a useful identification method in the field when calcite is in a more massive form, or as an enjoyable teaching aid under laboratory conditions. The rhomb crystals in these specimens are large and well formed, however, as they are natural, not cut and not polished, small chips and scratches will be visible. The pieces are available in two colours, red or white as well as a range of sizes. They were collected from Morocco and will be supplied in a labelled card tray.

Specimens of Calcite Rhombs, collected from Morocco. Calcite is a common mineral with various forms and colours. It is most recognisable by its low Mohs hardness of 3, and its high reactivity with even weak acids. These specimens come in lots of 1kg, in a heavy duty polythene bag. Pieces come in various sizes.
Dogtooth calcite and selenite crystals in limestone matrix, these mineral specimens appear to have formed in pockets in limestone, likely by action by water creating hollows, leaving transparent, glass like crystals behind. Collected from Jebel Saghro, Morocco, the samples are available in various sizes and come supplied in a card tray with a label.
Calcite rhombs are the massive forms of calcite crystals, exhibiting the rhombic (cubic) crystal nature excellently. These mineral specimens from Morocco also display excellent fluorescent properties, while viewed under natural lighting, they rhombs are a pale off white colour, however, when viewed under short wave UV lighting, they fluoresce an extraordinary, vivid pink and red colour, the complete opposite of what you would expect. Supplied as 2″ x 2″ pieces in a card tray with a data label.
Specimens of nail head calcite spar found in Cumbria, UK. Specimens are supplied in a white card tray with a information label.

Stunning red quartz (Hematoide) over a calcite matrix collected from Jebel Saghro in Morocco. This unique variety of quartz owes its red colour to very fine hematite inclusions which have become incorporated into the quartz mass. Naturally the intensity of the red varies in these specimens dependent on the purity of the quartz; some samples exhibit a paler red while others exhibit a deep red colour. Available in two sizes, each specimen is supplied in a card tray with an information label.
Specimens of Salt Pseudomorphs on a limy matrix, collected from the Triassic Aust Cliff in Avon, UK. Salt Pseudomorphs serve as important inicators of paleoenvironmental conditions. They typically form in semi arid (dry) climates, where saline water evaporates, which leaves behind cubic salt crystals. These salt crystals later dissolve, occasionally preserving their cubic imprints These specimens are available in multiple sizes and come supplied in a white card tray with an information label.

Baryte mineral specimens collected form Somerset in the UK, exhibiting a bladed crystal habit or massive form, the dense specimens are an off white, yellow or brown colour due to staining from hematite (iron ore), available in various sizes, ideal for educational use.
Iceland spar is a clear variation of calcite, it exhibits the rhombic crystal system of calcite perfectly, the crystals easily divide into rhombs, making them well sought after for a variety of reasons. Originally reported from Helgustadir Mine, Eskifjord, Iceland, hence its name. One of the most remarkable aspect of Iceland spar is its refractive properties. When light passes through one of the crystals, it is divided into two rays at different angles which results in a double refraction effect. Essentially, anything seen though the crystal is seen in double. This can best be seen if you place the calcite over some text, it will appear as if it has been printed twice. These mineral samples come from Santa Eulalia, Chihuahua, Mexico and are available in 2 sizes: Upto 1″ and Over 1″. They come in a card tray with an information label.
Orthocalse feldspar mineral specimens from Evje, Norway. It exhibits a pale pink, white or pale grey colouration with excellent cleavage planes with rhombic crystal forms, a common mineral found in granites and rhyolites, orthoclase belongs to the feldspar family of minerals and can be found all over the world. Specimens are available in various sizes and come supplied in a card tray with an information label.
Pyrite is a well known and common mineral found around the world, commonly known as fools gold, it has a brassy yellow colour and metallic lustre, most pyrite people will see will likely be pyrite crystal beds or chunks. These specimens are individual cubes of pyrite which demonstrate the signature cubic crystal structure. These samples are from Spain and are available in 2 sizes: 1 cm and 2 cm cubes and come supplied in a polythene bag with an information label.
Sulphur mineral specimens (also spelt sulfur) from Bolivia, these fine crystalline masses give off a pungent odour as expected of this mineral and have a pale yellow colouration to them. They formed in volcanic zones and are excellent for the more serious collector. Available in one size only and supplied in a card tray with a data label.

Chalcedony mineral specimens from Morocco, the pieces belong to the quartz family of minerals and is very similar to carnelian, even having a waxy lustre, although it tends to have a botryoidal crystal habit. The pieces are blue, white, red and orange and available in various sizes, supplied in a card tray with an information label.
Cleavelandite is a variety of the mineral albite, one of the constituent minerals of plagioclase feldspar, thus is found in areas where pegmatites and granites exists in certain localities around the world. These particular specimens come from Evje, in Southern Norway and as expected, has a pale green colouration to it. As with albite, cleavelandite also exhibits a triclinic crystal habit and has a hardness of 6- 7 on the Moh’s scale of hardness, it is usually found within cavities of other rocks or minerals. It as named in 1823 by Henry J. Brooke in honor of Parker Cleaveland , professor of geology and mineralogy at Bowdoin College in Maine. Our mineral specimens are massive in form with occasional accessory such as smokey quartz or plagioclase or orthoclase feldspar. The specimens were collected by our own staff from Evje and are available in a range of sizes. Each specimen is supplied in a labelled card tray.
Galena with massive baryte from Morocco, showing the two contrasting colours of the off white baryte and metallic blue galena mineral specimens together, both are quite dense yet extremely fragile, these samples were collected from Morocco and available in 3 sizes.
Halite mineral specimens from the Boulby mine in Redcar, North Yorkshire, UK. Halite is a salt mineral and has a cubic crystal system and vitreous lustre, these specimens are rough and available in various sizes, suitable for educational use, supplied in a card tray with a label.

Cut ulexite mineral specimens from California, USA. A mineral similar to gypsum, ulexite is able to transmit light through its long axis, meaning if placed above an image or text, will transmit it to the samples surface as an image. Hence the name TV rock, excellent for children, these pieces are available in several sizes and will come supplied in a card tray with an information label.
These particular samples are a milky white to pale yellow colour and show typical fibrous crystal habit expected from Witherite. Samples are supplied in a white card with an information label.
