Chalcedony is a cryptocrystalline form of silica, comprised of the polymorphs quartz and moganite. Typically, chalcedony has a waxy lustre and a botryoidal (bubbly) appearance, commonly it is blue in colour, but reds, oranges and white are also present, sometimes mixed together. Chalcedony, along with carnelian has been used throughout history as a gemstone, its pearly lustre when polished has seen it used in various pendants, seals and broaches. It was also used much earlier than that as pre-historic tools and implements such as spear and arrow heads due to the conchoidal fracture that chalcedony has, like other quartz minerals, it tends to break similar to glass. Such examples of primitive chalcedony tools have been found as far back as the Bronze age. Our specimens of chalcedony are in the form of lined geodes and come from Morocco, these pieces supplied by weight are a faded blue in colouration with occasioanl whites, orange and others, supplied in a lots of 1 kilogram, the samples will come in a polythene bag along with an information label, with sizes varying between 20 mm to 60 mm.
