Cleoniceras were a species of ammonite which lived during the later end of the Cretaceous period, between 102 to 110 million years ago, they ranged in size between 40 mm to 100 mm though larger ones have been observed. Their shells formed in a tight spiral towards the centre, giving them a small umbilicus, and gradually got wider further out. They exhibit shallow, smooth ribbing, which later spring in pairs, usually as the animal got older. They covered a range across what is now Europe and Madagascar, with these particular fossil specimens coming from the Mahajanga Province, Madagascar. Our samples are approximately 30 to 40 mm in diameter and are brown in colour, they have also been polished, giving them a shining, smooth surface, which when viewed under certain angles of light, also exhibits some iridescence. Each sample will come supplied in a small polythene bag with an information label. Suitable for children over 6 years old, educational use or first time collectors.
