Breithaupt Kassel, in conjunction with geologist Professor Dr. Clar, manufactures the Cocla stratum compass for performing geological, geophysical, mining, and tectonic measurements. This compass incorporates Prof. Dr. Clar’s unique method, allowing users to obtain azimuth strike and angle of dip readings simultaneously in a single operation. Geologists, engineering geologists, rock mechanic engineers, and surveyors utilize the COCLA compass.

Its sturdy housing and corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy cover make it exceptionally robust. With a graduated circle measuring 50 mm in diameter, the compass facilitates easy long-distance reading of the azimuth. It features a circular magnetic needle and a dampening pot made of copper for eddy current dampening. A notable characteristic is the transparent acrylic plate on the base, enabling observers to view readings from the bottom up. This is helpful for analysing overhead outcrops. The compass’s left side hinge includes 60 mm etched graduations, functioning as an inclinometer, eliminating the need to tip the compass on its side for obtaining dip degree readings. In essence, this instrument, crafted by professionals for professionals, comes balanced for magnetic zone 1, North. However, it can be precisely balanced for other countries at no additional charge or time upon purchase. The automatic adjustment process takes place when determining the compass’s dispatch location.
