Manufactured in Germany by engineering firm Breighthaupt Kassel, the COVIS model is a geological compass for global use with stratum measurements suitable within the geological industry and for topographical surveys. It features a base plate measuring 120 x 100 mm with circular bubble level and 100 mm graduation along the edge for mapping with threaded bush 3/8 for the use on most standard tripods The overall diameter of the compass circle 63 mm and houses a magnetic needle which is 50 mm long with an adjustable inclination weight to counter balance needle for global use and also a locking system for the compass needle if you require the needle ot be locked on a particular measurement. The dial features accurate graduations at 1° with counterclockwise numbering in multiples of 10° as well as international cardinal points (East and West inverse). The clinometer is a gravity operated pendulum clinometer +/- 90° and this model unlike the CONEF also features a flip open mirror in the cover with a sighting line. Standard declination adjustment +/- 30° is also available as well as a black foldable diopter for sighting. Overall this impressive piece of German manufacturing has a total weight of only 280 grams and is all housed in a rugged non magnetic metal case and comes with a leather case.
