Desmoceras is an extinct species of ammonite which lived during the lower end of the Cretaceous period, dating these fossil specimens to between 110 to 102 million years old. They are found alongside other ammonites which lived during this time period including douvilleiceras and cleoniceras. The smooth shell and lack of distinct ribbing has lead to geologists to infer that this particular species of ammanoid was fast swimming anektonic carnivore, actively hunting its prey. These samples were collected from the Mahajanga Province, Madagascar, a famous locality for excellent quality ammonite specimens. They are approximately 15 to 20 mm in diameter with a silver coloured irridesent shell. Supplied in small polythene bag with a label, suitable for older children and educational use.
