White dolomite crystal beds on matrix, excellent crystal forms which come from the Pallieres Mine, Languedoc in France. These mineral specimens exhibit a brilliant white colouration and contrasts nicely with the dark, grey,rough matrix the crystals have grown on. Dolomite is a anhydrous carbonate mineral composed of calcium magnesium carbonate, due to no impurities being present during the minerals formation, they crystals are white (unlike our pink and brown varieties). Dolomite crystals often form in tri-rhombohedral shapes with curved faces, this aspect of the mineral can be seen on these specimens, although observation under a magnifying lens on some specimens will enhance this. Available in various optional sizes, the specimens will come supplied in a card tray with an information label.

Brown dolomite mineral specimens exhibit curved face dolomite crystals on massive dolomite matrix collected from Cumbria, the colouration is due to hematite staining from nearby former iron mine workings. High quality mineral specimens from the UK available in various sizes.
Dolostone or dolomite rock is a sedimentary carbonate rock that contains a high percentage of the mineral dolomite, CaMg(CO3)2. Most dolostones formed as a magnesium replacement of limestone or lime mud prior to lithification. It is resistant to erosion & less soluble than limestone in weakly acidic groundwater. Technically, dolostone has a stoichiometric ratio (reaction & product ratio) of nearly equal amounts of magnesium and calcium. This particular example comes from the Clitheroe area of Lancashire. Specimens are supplied in labelled card trays.

Iceland spar is a clear variation of calcite, it exhibits the rhombic crystal system of calcite perfectly, the crystals easily divide into rhombs, making them well sought after for a variety of reasons. Originally reported from Helgustadir Mine, Eskifjord, Iceland, hence its name. One of the most remarkable aspect of Iceland spar is its refractive properties. When light passes through one of the crystals, it is divided into two rays at different angles which results in a double refraction effect. Essentially, anything seen though the crystal is seen in double. This can best be seen if you place the calcite over some text, it will appear as if it has been printed twice. These mineral samples come from Santa Eulalia, Chihuahua, Mexico and are available in 2 sizes: Upto 1″ and Over 1″. They come in a card tray with an information label.

Specular Hematite, also known as specularite is a variation of haematite which has a silver or black colouration and metallic lustre which gives the crystals a sparkling appearance. These particular specimens are of specularite crystals with an anhedral form on a massive haematite matrix. These specimens display veins of specularite within a matrix of massive haematite. They come from Cumbria, UK and are available in various sizes, each sample comes supplied in a card tray with an information label. They would be of particular interest to those who are particular keen on collecting British mineral specimens.

They typically form in semi arid (dry) climates, where saline water evaporates, which leaves behind cubic salt crystals. Fulgerite mineral specimens from Algeria, formed from lightening strikes which pieces the desert sands instantly melting and fusing the quartz crystals creating a light weight hollow piece of rock.
Chalcedony mineral specimens from Morocco, the pieces belong to the quartz family of minerals and is very similar to carnelian, even having a waxy lustre, although it tends to have a botryoidal crystal habit. Milky quartz mineral specimens from Norway, with a pale white colouration, hence the name, sometimes also known as white quartz, snow quartz or simply quartz. These particular samples were collected by staff from Iveland, Norway. This locality is also where we collected the smokey quartz from. It is in a massive form and has a very fine crystalline texture, this also results in it sometimes being sharp, so caution is advised when handling these samples.
