The palatal tooth of an Eomesodon fish, Bathonian in age, Jurassic, approximately 166 to 168 million years old. This tooth was collected near Peterborough, in Northamptonshire. Eomesodon is an extinct genus of ray-finned fish which existed during the late Triassic through to the Jurassic period. These marine fish were durophage feeders meaning they fed on hard shelled or exoskeleton bearing organisms. Their peg-like teeth would’ve helped crush the hard shells of their prey. This tooth is approximately 0.4/5 mm in size and is supplied in a small plastic bag with an information label.
