It is a popular mineral specimen for many, children, teachers, collectors etc, it often forms with a cubic crystal habit with the crystals being a variety of colours and sizes from deep rich purples, vibrant greens, calming yellows and sometimes crystal clear. These particular samples of fluorite crystals on matrix are vary with any of the mentioned colours. The history of fluorspar mining in the region began in 1882 and finally finished in 1999, with the closure of the Frazer Hush Mine. These particular samples are available by weight and come supplied in polythene bags, the sizes of the samples vary but in general range between 50 mm to 100 mm, but many lie in between and depict the cubic crystal beds. Massive Biotite Mica specimens, collected from Arendal, Norway. These specimens depict a “massive” crystal structure, as opposed to the more commonly seen sheets. Like all biotite mica, these specimens are dark in colour, exhibiting a dark grey to black hue. Mica is one of the most common mineral groups, with biotite being the most abundant member. Biotite is very common in igneous and metamorphic rocks, with the dark minerals in granites, pegmatites and gneiss often being due in some part to the presence of this black mica. This massive biotite are available in limited supply so we recommend you move fast if you wish to add a piece to your collection. Supplied in a white card tray with information label.
Specimens of milky quartz containing small amounts of lepidolite mica from Glen Gairn, Strathdon, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. These samples of quartz contain a pale lilac lepidolite mica which has a massive form. These pieces, ideal for British mineral collectors, are supplied in a white card tray with an information label.
Specimens of galena in matrix from Leadhills, South Lanarkshire, Scotland,UK. Galena is a lead sulphide mineral which is a popular mineral among many, from amateurs to professionals and for varying reasons. Galena is the primary ore of lead, and as such, has had a large impact historically on human history. In general, galena has blue hue and a metallic (shiny) lustre and is often reflective, but can dull over time with exposure. It normally forms with a cubic crystal system and as such, when large chunks are broken, it will often break into cubes, or certain sides will appear “blocky”. Due to it’s low melting point, galena was easy to smelt and thus played in important role an human industry, being used in a range of item such as lead pipes, building materials, electronics and of course in pencils. These samples display galena crystals of varying sizes and lustres within a matrix. Pieces are supplied in a white card tray with an information label, multiple sizes are available.
Sphalerite mineral specimens from Leadhills, South Lanarkshire, Scotland, UK. Samples are of the massive form of the zinc sulphide mineral and depicts a dull yet metallic lustre and colouration. Orange calcite is a coloured variation of the mineral calcite (calcium carbonate), it has an orange hue to it due to the presence of haematite impurities, these particular specimens exhibit a more crystalline, fine grained crystal texture in which the individual crystals are too fine to be seen, however, the crystal have grown and interlocked with each other to form a large mass, known as ‘massive’. Calcite its self is among the most common mineral found naturally, quite often as mineral deposits but also in many sedimentary rocks, either as a cement or as crystal inclusions, particularly limestone. It is well known for being a fairly soft mineral, easily scratched, coming in at 3 on the Mohs scale of hardness. These particular pieces are suitable for enthusiasts and educational use, both because of the calming blue colour and also the crystal structure and as a means to display the various colours a mineral can be found. Supplied in lots of 1kg, in a heavy duty polythene bag with information label.
