A gabbro slide and thin section, showcasing textbook features that one would expect from this coarse, mafic igneous rock. The rock actively comprises plagioclase feldspar and pyroxene (clinopyroxene), with possible minor amounts of amphibole and olivine. Notably, the feldspar actively exhibits simple and cross-hatched twinning, enhancing mineral identification skills. These slides actively supplement hand specimens and actively assist in interpreting the rock’s crystallization history.

This specific example originates from the Balmedie quarry near Aberdeen, Scotland. This gabbro slide has thickness of 30 microns, and comes on a 46 x 27 mm glass slide with a cover slip. To ensure optimal protection, we actively supply it in a protective sleeve complete with a label.

We provide a full range of igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic and mineral thin sections. Click here to view them. Should you require a microscope, they can be found here.
