Turitella is a genus of marine gastropod mollusk that is well known for its tightly coiled “unicorn horn” shaped elongate shells. This limestone slab is of Eocene age, approximately 47 Mya and has one natural, rough surface and one smooth, cut and polished surface which reveals a cross sectional view of some of the Turitella shells present. The abundant shells vary in terms of fragmentation and size – <1 cm to 1.5 cm. Supplied with an information label.
