Glycymeris glycymeris is a species of marine clam found even still to this day in many parts of Europe, it is commonly referred to as a a ‘dog cockle’ and is edible, these particular fossil specimens however, were found in Pleistocene bed located in Red Crag in Walton on Naze, UK. They are dated to between 2,588,000 to 11,700 years old, living during what many know as the ‘Ice Age’, like most fossils found in these beds, the shells are very fragile, and care is suggested when handling these samples. The shells themselves appear as a tarnished yellow colour, likely not the original colour, yet, morphological details such as growth lines and hinges can still be clearly define upon observation of sample. These particular specimens are roughly 4 to 5 cm in size and come supplied in a card tray with an information label, suitable for those interested in recent fossils.
