SKU: IGNROK029 Category:

Sample of adamellite granite from the famous Shap Fell, in Cumbria. Also known as Shap granite, the samples are composed of typical granitic minerals including quartz, feldspar and mica. The samples contain large amounts of orthoclase feldspar crystals, giving the rock an overall pink colouration. These crystals are mixed with white and smokey quartz and clear rock crystal along with black flakes of biotite mica. Giving a sharp contrast between the minerals present. Radiometric dating indicates that the granitic pluton which would evetually forms these samples is approximately 397 million years old, suggesting it formed at some point in the early Devonian period. The granite its' self is renowned world wide for its strength and beautiful colour making it a popular rock for use in kitchen desktops, tables, head stones and more. The samples come from the Shap Quarry in Shap Fell, Cumbria and comes in a white card tray with an information label.
