Ilymatogyra arietina is an extinct species of bivalve which belongs to the oyster family, they appear quite similar to gryphea, which are abundant in the UK and known as ‘Devils toe nails’ due to the shape of the shell. These particular fossil specimens are from the lower part of the Cretaceous period, making them between 125 to 113 million years old, they were found in Austin in the state of Texas, USA. They are a little smaller than gryphea and the hinge of the shell is much more coiled, they are available in 2 sizes, small which are between 1.5 to 2 cm in size and large which are between 2.5 to 3 cm in size. All sample will come supplied in a packet with an information card.
