Specimens of iridescent goethite with quartz from Graves Mountain, Georgia, U.S.A. Goethite is an iron hydroxide mineral that is commonly formed by the weathering of other iron-bearing minerals. These particular samples of goethite have a botryoidal habit and display iridescence, an optical effect caused by the interference of light against the minerals structure. These specimens also feature black/brown quartz with some crystals also appearing iridescent, the black colouration and iridescence of these crystals is actually caused by a thin layer of goethite coating the quartz. These peculiar pieces are a must have for any mineral collector. Various sizes are available, samples are supplied in a white card tray with an information label.
