Kämmererite is a variety of chromite, which is often found in massive form. It possess unique properties and characteristics which make it desirable. Firstly, the varying abundance of chrome contributes to a shift in colour from a dull grey to shimmering silver – and even to a deep purple. The crystals are flexible, but not elastic, so can be moulded (note that this is under high pressure and cannot be achieved by hand). While the lustre can be dull, our specimens, which come from Aheim in Western Norway tend to shimmer with a metallic shine. A rare and unique mineral, these specimens are available in a number of sizes and are provided with a white card tray and information label.
