Specimens of low grade kyanite in fuchsite from Mundarara Mine, Arusha Region, Tanzania. Kyanite is a rich blue coloured silicate mineral, even the name is derived from the 'kyanos' which means 'deep blue'. It often forms in pegmatites and so is found along side other minerals such as quartz and feldspars, its presence will often indicate a high pressure metamorphic environment, and being one of few, is also used as an index mineral when determining metamorphic depth and pressure. These samples of fuchsite contain a low grade of kyanite, however the mineral still shows its typical blue colour. Some pieces may also contain inclusions of ruby corundum, a mineral that Mundarara Mine is known for producing. These specimens are supplied in a white card tray with an information label, and are an ideal addition to any mineral collection.
