The rostral spine or tooth like projection of Onchopristis numidus; an extinct species of Sawfish which lived during the Cretaceous period, approximately 66 to 72 million years ago in the Maastrichtian Age. Onchopristis had eyes on top of its head to spot predators and potential attack from above as it scoured the waters and bed below for food. Characteristic of this particular species; O. Numidus has one barb to each tooth unlike the Sawfish of today which have no barbs. The rostrum of the Onchoprostis was most likely used as a detective device, for sensing food and perhaps stunning prey, much like in modern Sawfish today. These particular tooth specimens were collected in Taouz, Morocco and are approximately 1″ to 1.5″ small size, 2″ to 2.5″ in length large size. Each individual specimen is supplied in a small plastic bag with an information label.
