Perisphinctes are an extinct species of ammonite which lived during the lower Jurassic period, 163 to 145 million years ago. The animal could grown from anywhere between 10 mm to over a meter in diameter, making them among the largest of the ammonites. Their shells exhibit excellent morphological features such as clear, distinct ribbing and occasionally, well defined ammonitic suture lines, among the near perfect coil shape, it could be said that perisphinctes are the text book ammonite. Their habitat ranged in the Jurassic oceans all over the world, however, Europe and Africa have yielded numerous specimens, these particular samples were found in Tulear, Madagascar, their off white, beige colour makes details even easier to view and are available in various sizes. They are of excellent quality and not to be missed, suitable for children with an interest in fossils as well as for educational use and serious collectors. These samples have also been polished to give them a smooth, attractive appearance.
