Specimens of small clusters of quartz crystals with one or more phantoms from Taffs Well, Wales, UK. These samples of quartz crystals show one of more phantom crystals. Crystal phantoms occur when a mineral ceases to grow and is coated in small crystals of either the same mineral or a different species, the original crystal then continues its growth trapping the smaller crystals within and creating the effect known as phantomed crystals. These particular phantoms are yellow quartz points with clear quartz coating them. The yellow colouration is most likely due to the presence of goethite when the crystals formed. Samples are supplied in a perspex magnifier box or in a white card tray and come with an information label. These are a must have for any mineral collector, especially those with British collections.
