SKU: pillzguitrilo Category:

A rare trilobite, pilletina zguidensis, from the famous Hamar Laghad Formation in Morocco, where numerous well preserved trilobites have been found in the past. This particular specimen, although small, measuring only 20 mm in length and 10 mm wide, is exceptionally well preserved and professionally prepped. Even with the naked eye, numerous morphological features can be observed such as the compound eyes, the segments which make up the thorax and tail sections. A striking feature of this particular fossil specimen is a small shovel like feature protruding from the trilobites head. It is widely believed that this feature was used as a shovel of sorts to churn up sediment on the floor, as most trilobites were 'bottom feeders' and this possibly unearth food sources. It is prepped on a limestone matrix measuring 7 x 6 cm in size, Devonian in age, dating back to over 300 million years ago this is an exceptional trilobite specimen, certainly one for any keen collector, it will come supplied in a card tray with an information label.
