Eocene puddingstone conglomerate collected from Hertfordshire, UK. Puddingstone is a textbook a variety of conglomerate, it is composed almost entirely of silica; the smooth and rounded silicic pebbles are held firmly in place by a hard silica cement. The silicic nature of this rock makes it characteristically harder than most conglomerates and it gives the rock a slightly polished appearance. This stunning conglomerate is ideal for educational purposes but would also make a beautiful display piece or an interesting addition to a rock collection. Conglomerates form from water transported sediment, just like their counterpart breccia, however, where as breccia tends to have angular clasts (inclusions), conglomerates usually have smooth, rounded clasts, as can be seen in our specimens. This is because the rocks which make up conglomerates have been transported much further than breccia, the duration of this transport has resulted in the clasts being eroded for a much longer period of time, making them more rounded, smoother and in some cases, polished. Available by weight, supplied in a 1kg bag with an information label.
