The crystals are globular in formation with a dull green colour which is in contrast to the yellow or pink baryte matrix. When found in sufficient quantities, the mineral tends to be mined and used as lead ore. Available in various sizes and supplied in a card tray with a label.

Pyromorphite mineral specimens from Caldbeck Fells, Cumbria. These samples are collected from surface deposits from various old mine workings and is a common mineral in the area. Pyromorphite is a lead phosphate mineral which is often green in colour, and at once in Cumbria mined as a lead ore, though the shade of green varies. It is easily identifiable because of its globular or reniform crystal habit which many will view as ‘bubble’ on the surface of the matrix it is on. The mineral is also slightly shiney due to its resinous lustre and is fairly soft, only 4 on the Moh’s scale of hardness and so care when handling is advised and some crystals may indeed show signs of damage. These particular specimens from Cumbria have a dull green colouration to them however, due to the yellow, white and pink baryte matrix there is a nice contrast of colours. Available in various sizes, the specimens come supplied in a card tray with an information label.
