Quartz crystals upon a specular hematite matrix, found in Florence Mine, Egremont, Cumbria. They are on a massive hematite matrix, The quartz has hexagonal crystal habit and a vitreous lustre.. The specularite has excellent but small anhedral crystal habits. Specimens are available and come supplied in a card tray with an information label.

Quarrtz crystal bed atop a matrix of hematite and specularite. Specularite is a variation of hemattie which has a silver or black colouration and metallic lustre which gives the crystals a sparkling appearance. This particular specimen depicts a bed of vitreous quartz crystals, which are perfectly juxtaposed to the dark red hematite and specularite matrix. They come from the now closed Florence Mine, Egremont, Cumbria, UK, measuring roughly 40 to 70 mm in size, they are of particular interest to those of you who are particular keen on collecting British mineral specimens, supplied in a small card tray with an information label.
