Its foliation may not correspond to the original sedimentary layering, but instead is in planes perpendicular to the direction of compression. Many people know of slate from its numerous uses in the building and architectural industry, especially as a roofing material in many European countries. This Cambrian slate is from North Wales can be found mainly in shades of grey, from pale to dark, but is occasionally purple or green.  Specimens are available in a range of sizes & supplied in labelled card trays.
