Specimens of star muscovite from Minas Gerais, Brazil. Muscovite mica is a common mineral often found in many other rocks. It is sometimes also known as common mica and is easily identifiable due to its perfect basal cleavage which result in specimens forming with thin laminae (sheets) which are often referred to as a 'book'. A soft mineral, ranking between 2 and 3 on the Moh's scale of hardness, it can be easily scratched, broken or even cut with scissors if the sheets are thin enough. These particular specimens have a peculiar star-shaped crystal formation caused by twinning of the muscovite crystals. These odd mineral samples are ideal for any mineral collector and come supplied in a white card tray with an information label.
