It forms in areas associated with natural hot spring or volcanic activity and historically was coined 'brimstone'. It can form as pointed crystal beds with a transluscent yellow colour or as a fine crystalline massive form with a pale yellow colour, such as these pieces which come from Nevada in the USA. Sulphur is mined and used for its acidic properties such as in fertilizers, pesticides and other industrial chemicals.
