Talc is often found as foliated masses commonly being green or bright green/blue in colour, it is ‘1’ on Moh’s scale of hardness and has a typical greasy lustre and feel to it. Ideal for schools, educational and teaching use, specimens supplied are a range of sizes and come in a strong polythene bag by kilo weight, sizes of samples vary between 20 mm to 70 mm and are thin due to talcs crysatline form.

Talc is a common clay mineral easily identifiable due to its greasy texture. It forms only rarely as a crystal form, and most variations or of the massive kind where the texture is very finely crystalline. Colours can vary from white to green to pale blue. It has a perfect basal cleavage, when broken, tends to break in slices or slabs, similar to slate. Being extremely soft, it is placed at 1 on the Moh’s scale of hardness and can be scratched and chipped simply with your finger nail. Many people will also use talc almost every day with out realising, it is the main ingredient in the manufacture of talcum powder as well as in corn starch. These particular samples from Egypt, they have a pale green colouration but may also have a blue hue if chlorite is present. Available by weight, we supply them in lots of 1 kilogram, the pieces will vary in size, between 20 mm to 70 mm, however, due to their platey cleavage the crystals form in, pieces will often be thin. The samples will come in a polythene bag along with an information label.

Blue calcite mineral samples supplied by weight, this blue variation is due to the presence of oxidised copper impurities within the crystals. These particular samples also show the rhombic crystal structure of calcite and can easily be seen with the naked eye. When formed in masses such as these pieces, the samples are known as ‘massive’. This blue calcite is available by weight, starting from 500 grams, and is suitable for lapidary, educational and enthusiasts use. the pieces vary from 20 mm to 100 mm though most pieces will sit in-between and come supplied in a polythene bag with a label.
