Xiphiorhynchus sp hypural fan collected from the Eocene Bracklesham Beds in Lee on Solent, Hampshire. Xiphiorhynchus is an extinct genus of ray-finned fish and it was a type of swordfish. It differed from the modern swordfish in that both its upper and lower jaws extended into long, pointy rostrums. Only the upper jaw of modern swordfish protrudes into a rostrum. Hypural fans are the joint between the last vertebra and the caudal fin. We have B grade and A grade specimens in stock; the A grade examples exhibit better detail and are more representative of the hypural fan. They measure between 10 and 20 mm in size and are supplied in small plastic bags with an information label.
