Specimens of zeolites in amygdaloidal basalt from Edinbane, Skye, UK. These samples show amygdales filled with zeolite crystals within basalt, this creates a rather interesting aesthetic as pockets of both small and large zeolites contrast with the dark of the basalt. Amygdaloidal basalt is a variety of lava which has crystal infilled former gas vesicles often appearing as small white spots in the otherwise black or dark brown finely crystalline basalt. The infill usually occurs as a secondary process when mineral rich volcanic fluids or ground water deposit minerals such as quartz, calcite and in this case zeolites in the solidified gas bubbles. Specimens are supplied in a white card tray with an information label, a must have for any British mineral collector.
